Swedish Wanderlust

Not All Who Wander Are Lost

What is Swedish Wanderlust? Embracing the Great Outdoors (and Maybe Snagging a Few Apples)

Let’s talk Swedish wanderlust—the urge to roam this stunning Scandinavian playground, where the constitution itself encourages you to be a full-blown nature-loving nomad. Thanks to Allemansrätten (The Right of Public Access), you’re basically free to ski, cycle, skate, swim, and yes, even camp just about anywhere you please. Sweden is like that generous friend who says, “Sure, borrow whatever you want!” except instead of a sweater, it’s the entire country.

In 2022, about 6.63 million tourists showed up in Sweden, and I’m willing to bet a good chunk of them were here for the outdoor magic. Where else can you wander forests, camp by a lake, and—best of all—pick apples right off the trees? I’ve definitely had my “dirty apple thief” moments, gleefully snatching a few right from the branches, and let’s just say it tastes even better with a side of mild rebellion.

So, whether you’re hiking, camping, wobbling on skis, or becoming a “dirty apple thief” like me, Sweden has you covered. Now, I want to hear from you: How do you embrace Swedish wanderlust? (And don’t worry, I’ll keep your apple-picking secrets safe!)

Hej! I’m Jenny —an American transplant who traded Southern humidity for Swedish mist, medieval ruins, and a deep appreciation for fika. I write from the perspective of someone discovering Sweden with wide-eyed wonder (and occasionally confused awe). From folklore and forest hikes to Viking bones and modern quirks, I’m on a journey to understand this beautiful, baffling country—and to tell its stories along the way.

Come wander with me—lagom pace, heart full of wanderlust!
