Happy Thanksgiving, wanderers!
Today, as I sit here with a plate of stuffing in one hand and a hot cup of gratitude in the other, I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on all that I’m thankful for this year. Sure, I might not be gathered around a Swedish smörgåsbord just yet, but there’s still plenty to celebrate—and a lot to keep me warm as I dream of that future move across the Atlantic.
First up, my husband. The man who stole my heart and (quite inconveniently) lives 4,700 miles away in Sweden. He’s kind, patient, and the very definition of “worth the wait.” He’s holding down the fort in Scandinavia while I wrestle with the slow tango of paperwork here in the States. Thank you, my love, for being my biggest cheerleader—even from 7 time zones away. I can’t wait to swap these calls for fika breaks in person.
I’m also immensely thankful for my son, who’s proof that the next generation is still full of goodness, kindness, and humor. Raising a human is no easy feat, but watching him grow into someone I’m proud to know? That’s a blessing I’ll never stop being thankful for.
Then there’s my family and friends, the people who remind me every day what unconditional love and support look like. Whether it’s a quick text, a long chat, or just knowing they’re there, I’m so grateful for every single one of them.
And let’s not forget my job. Yes, it might not be as romantic as, say, chasing the Northern Lights, but it keeps me grounded, supports my dreams, and gives me a reason to wake up and do good work every day.
Finally, I’m thankful for the hope that soon, very soon, I’ll be able to pack my bags, hop on a plane, and join my husband in Sweden. I’m imagining a future where Thanksgiving includes both pumpkin pie and Prinsesstårta—a truly transatlantic celebration.
So, here’s my Thanksgiving toast: to love that spans oceans, to family and friends who make life beautiful, to a son who inspires me, and to the dream of reuniting with my husband soon.
What are you thankful for this year? Share your gratitude in the comments—I’d love to hear what’s filling your hearts this Thanksgiving!
With love and a side of mashed potatoes,
JB
