Not All Who Wander Are Lost

A Year of Love, Adventure & a Slice of Princess Cake

Today, I celebrate another trip around the sun—with a slice of prinsesstårta in hand and my husband by my side. Looking back at 2024, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude, because this year has been nothing short of magical. And it all started with him.

My husband is the reason for this adventure—the reason I traded familiar streets for winding skogsstigar (forest trails), city noise for the quiet hum of nature, and an old life for something completely new. Love has a funny way of pushing you beyond your comfort zone, and somehow, in the middle of all the change, I found something even deeper: home.

This year, I’ve wandered through misty forests, traced my fingers over ancient stenar (stones), and stood in awe of landscapes shaped by time. But the best part? Sharing every moment with the person who made it all possible. He’s my adventure, my anchor, and the reason I wake up every day in this beautiful country, feeling like the luckiest person alive.

And today, on my födelsedag (birthday), we celebrate not just me, but us—our story, our journey, and the incredible life we’re building together. With every bite of that soft, sweet marsipan-covered cake, I’m reminded that life (and love) is meant to be savored.

Skål to love, adventure, and many more birthdays in Sweden!

About the author

Hej! I’m Jenny —an American transplant who traded Southern humidity for Swedish mist, medieval ruins, and a deep appreciation for fika. I write from the perspective of someone discovering Sweden with wide-eyed wonder (and occasionally confused awe). From folklore and forest hikes to Viking bones and modern quirks, I’m on a journey to understand this beautiful, baffling country—and to tell its stories along the way.

Come wander with me—lagom pace, heart full of wanderlust!
